Description

This Valentine’s Day red velvet cake is a soft, moist, and romantic dessert layered with tangy cream cheese frosting—perfect for expressing love through baking.

Ingredients

Scale

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 3/4 cups granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon white vinegar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons red food coloring

**For the Frosting:**

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

3 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

3. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, oil, and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each.

4. Stir in buttermilk, vinegar, vanilla, and red food coloring.

5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.

6. Divide the batter evenly between the two pans and bake for 30–32 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

7. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

8. To make the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.

9. Add powdered sugar gradually, then mix in vanilla. Beat until fluffy.

10. Frost the first cake layer, stack the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake.

11. Decorate with red sprinkles, heart-shaped candies, or piped rosettes for a romantic touch.

Notes

Chill the cake layers before assembling for easier handling.

You can also bake this in heart-shaped pans for a Valentine theme cake design.

Store cake covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
